The Southern Boone Varsity Quiz Bowl team competed in the second of three Tri-County conference tournaments Thursday evening at School of the Osage. Quiz Bowl Sponsor Mrs. Rogers says it was a challenging night for the team, as they went 1-2 on the evening. The team performed admirably against perpetual powerhouse Hallsville and held them to a closer margin than any other team in the conference this year. They then dropped a close match to Osage which came down to the last two questions of the game. They finished the evening with a strong performance against Boonville. Top scorers for the team were Max Rice and Hunter Parsons. The team currently sits in third place in the Tri-County Conference and will resume play on January 12th, as they travel to Eugene for an invitational quad tournament.

Mrs. Dooley's 5th grade science classes are growing mold. Students are looking at which conditions either grow mold better or stop mold from growing. The reason for growing mold is to explore what decomposers do which is break down dead material. Students are learning about how mold comes from a mushroom spore which grows into a mushroom root (a decomposer) and starts breaking down the food.

Today is National Special Education Day. This day marks the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law which was signed by President Gerald Ford on December 2, 1975. This law is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which made education available to all American children. This day honors the progress that has been made in special education. Please join us in thanking the Southern Boone Special Education team for all that they do for our students.
