School Board Award

The Southern Boone Board of Education is among 31 Missouri school boards earning the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s (MSBA) 2024 Governance Team Award. This prestigious award is based on the outstanding commitment of the school board and superintendent to ongoing professional development in effective governance practices. The award also recognizes their commitment to regional and statewide leadership and to active participation in legislative advocacy for public schools and the students they serve.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from MSBA,” said Board President Amy Begemann. “Our school board's collaborative efforts and shared vision are key to our success. The board believes professional development is important not only for all staff but also for all board members. We will continue to work tirelessly to advocate for our students and ensure they receive a high-quality education."

"This award is a testament to our board's dedication to continuous improvement and their unwavering commitment to our students' success,” said School Superintendent Dr. Tim Roth. “Their active participation in professional development and advocacy efforts ensures that we are always striving to provide the best educational environment possible."

The school board in each awarded district achieved the following criteria:

  • The district is fully accredited.

  • All seven school board members completed the Essential New Board Member Certification from MSBA.

  • All seven board members fulfilled the Refresher Training requirement for the current year through MSBA.

  • At least two board members attained the Advanced Certification from MSBA.

  • At least one board member attained the Master Certification.

  • At least a quorum of the board and the superintendent attended the 2023 MSBA Annual Conference and a regional meeting during the past year.

  • A representative attended the 2024 MSBA Advocacy Day.

  • A board member representative participated in MSBA’s Delegate Assembly.

Board President Amy Begemann earned both the Master and Advanced Certification from MSBA. Board Vice-President Barrett Glascock and Board Members Karen Bill and Chris Felmlee each received the Advanced Certification. The programs established by MSBA recognize local school board members for pursuing additional learning opportunities beyond the legally required school board training.

The school boards and superintendents receiving the award were recognized during MSBA’s Summer Summit held June 24-25 in Branson.
