Students in Mrs. Dooley's 5th grade science class recently worked on a project to gather evidence to support an argument that the apparent brightness of the sun is dependent upon an observer's distance from the sun. In this activity, students constructed a model solar system and gathered observations of the sun's apparent brightness (using a flashlight) from each planet within their model. They used those observations as evidence to support a claim about which planet is best suited to explore with a solar-powered planetary rover.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted its annual School Bus Safety Inspection today. The Southern Boone School District's fleet of buses passed the inspection with a perfect approval rating of 100%. This qualifies the school district for an Exemplary Fleet Award from the highway patrol. This award is given to school districts whose fleets achieve a 90% or higher approval rating on the inspection. The Southern Boone School District is proud of this achievement and of the district's transportation department, including Bus Mechanic Dennis Sapp and all the bus drivers for their hard work to safely transport our students to and from school each day.

The school district held a pre-construction meeting today for the outdoor stadium and track construction project at the high school. Construction will begin on May 15th, with a majority of the project anticipated to be completed by the end of August. This construction project was made possible by voters in the school district approving the $3 million no-tax-increase bond issue during the April 2022 election.
