The Southern Boone County R-I School District is pleased to announce Dr. Dawn Day as the new principal at Southern Boone Middle School. She is currently a principal in the Jefferson City School District and will officially begin her duties with Southern Boone on July 1st, 2024.
"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Dawn Day as the new principal at Southern Boone Middle School,” said School Superintendent Dr. Tim Roth. “Her experience in education, along with her passion for student success makes her a perfect fit for our school community. We look forward to the positive impact she'll have on our students, staff and families."
Dr. Day has been serving as principal at West Elementary School in Jefferson City for the past three years. Previously, she served as an assistant principal in Jefferson City for three years and was the principal at Wright City West Elementary School for two years. She has taught various grade levels from 3rd-8th for eleven years before moving into administration.
“I am honored to be the next principal at Southern Boone Middle School,” said Dr. Day. “I am excited to work with a dynamic staff that has a focus on academic excellence for students. I look forward to collaborating to ensure continued excellence in our students.”
Dr. Day earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Southwest Baptist University, a Master’s Degree in Learning, Teaching and Curriculum with an emphasis in Literacy from the University of Missouri and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Maryville University.
Dr. Day has been married to her high school sweetheart, Ryan, for 27 years. Her husband is the Executive Director of Elementary Education for Columbia Public Schools. Their daughter, Abigail, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Missouri and will be graduating in a few weeks with her Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas. Their son, Cameron, will also be graduating in a few weeks with his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Missouri.
The Southern Boone Board of Education met during a special meeting on April 19th, 2024 and approved Dr. Day as the new middle school principal for the 2024-2025 school year.
